I don't know who was the first guy who came up with the idea of baking salty egg yolk with sweet lotus paste or the dude who was the first to mix prawn paste with fresh fruits BUT bless them, bless them hard.
Just in case you're still wondering - these seemingly awful combinations (well, in words at least) have resulted in the heavenly delicacies of mooncakes and rojaks.
In conjunction with the upcoming Mooncake/Mid-Autumn Festival (ya I know its pretty long to go yet, but I seem to be infected by a SLIGHT hint of constant-hungriness by the ongoing HungryYOUKNOWWHO festival), I shall concentrate on the salty yolk-lotus paste combo.
After eating over 20 rounds of mooncakes (Note: one round per year), I thought I have tasted every types of mooncakes any wicked minds can come up with. At the back of my head, I had came to the conclusion that only a mooncake that is essentially a lotus paste wrapped in egg-yolk would truly satisfy my appetite.
Then came a fateful day last week when I tried the Starbucks mooncakes, courtesy of SYeen (Oops, sorry eric). Before this, I did know that Starbucks have their own mooncakes (in Msia at least) but I had always dismissed it (aiya, guailo know how to make mooncakes 1meh? No good one lah....).
How wrong was I...
- It was bloody good (Note: Still dont think guailo know how to make mooncakes, must be some local sifu's).
Achtung!!! Hazards ahead might result in saliva-drenched keyboard!!!
Clockwise from top-left: Quarter-Gone Hazelnut Latte, Half-Eaten Tiramitsu, Berry Cheese and GreenTea
Three simple reasons why I like these guailou mooncakes:
1. New and interesting flavours (greentea isnt new but still good)
2. After a few pieces, you wont go 'WHERE's-MY-FREAKING-CUP-OF-TEA' due to the moderate sweetness
Surprisingly, the cheese "yolk" proved to be quite a cheecky subsitute to the original sinful salty egg yolk. The coffee aroma shouldnt let any starbuck regulars down and the Greentea though wasnt anything new was still a delight due to its [edit]heavely-paired partner of red bean paste redbean-tasting choc. Last but certainly not least was the 'refreshing' berrycheese that contained real berries in it!
Allright, I shall leave the photos to drool yourselves to dehydration :P.
Disclaimer:
1. No. no. The writer was not paid by Starbucks or anyone to post the above, though the writer do confess that he wont mind receiving more of those mooncakes.
2. No. no. No mooncakes were made to suffer unnecessarily long before being *ahem-ed*.

True to the 1st post, the mooncakes taken in the shots were incomplete. Sori, but the rich coffee aroma that exploded in my nostril upon undressing the mooncakes stimulated my basic instinct to *ahem* them first before taking the all important shots above (showing how vulnerable they were for subsequent *ahem's*, ROAR!!!)
