Demonstration overdose?

First BERSIH now HINDRAF.

What sort of times are we heading into? While I'm not in the position to judge, the former, IMHO, did show some sense and behaved sensibly during the demo. The purpose of the latter however, leaves me incredulous. Don't get me wrong. I do pity the plight of the group of people especially in the case which their temples were demolished. And I do believe the former colonizer of the nation did play a part in the past. But the asking of USD1M/head does give out a negative vibe on the entire movement. An apology plus an education fund could perhaps project a better image.

But, on a lighter note, such incidences do provide some unique 'entertainment' to our mundane lives now that the usual sources (the likes of Heroes and Prison Break) are slowly grinding to a halt due to the writers' strike. Having said that, I still prefer watching mutants in action rather than some bad English lessons.

Ahdo home coming

Back in Penang after a maddening series of chicanes that caused bumper2bumper crawl at 20km/h on the NS highway.

Anyhow, it's definitely good to be home again. However, the weather hasn't been so kind. The relentless heat is making my body wet, very wet*. Still, i'm getting used to and enjoying every minute of the freedom of doing anything/nothing.

Nothing beats a fresh brew of coffee in the morning with a copy of newspaper under a veranda. Laze around after breakfast. Watch some TVs. Pick up a book. Whip up some seafood pasta for lunch. A glass of lime juice. More TV. Laze around. Chit chat. Dinner. Supper. Ah....... Life is good, almost surreal.

(Update: Life could be better, if Utd hadn't lost last night and/or if our Malaysian world no.2 had managed to win the China leg of the Badminton Super Series together with his gal that won the women's title.)

Just finished Obi Wan's round the world adventure. At this rate, I'm gonna run out of things to do for past-time.

A (very) shortlist of others joining the home coming wagon:
Ken 'NeedAHotSis' C. would be back in two weeks time - "Hang in there dude!"
Kenny 'CrappyRocker' N. is almost back - "Need to have a piece/glimpse/taste of you before you head to the dunes again"

Reservoir of memory is almost full with recent happenings. Need to unload soon.

Lightsabre for BMW

Emo mode shutting down....
Initializing default/kiasu mode....

Back to old self.

Has been feeling the aftermath of the physicoemo-taxing exam lately. Wasn't helped by the sudden onset of fever which has just only been doused by the trusty combination of paracetamol + herbal tea. Still, the emo index is plummeting like the credibility of the 'gowamen'#.

Mr Obi Wan (right) posing with his kickass BMW bike and pal

Went to the Penguin Books Warehouse Sale with my still leaky nose. Rummaged thru countless boxes of dusty books and found the above two. 15 bucks for Obi Wan's adventure and 22 for Neil "StarDust" Gaiman's Anansi Boys (thick cover). Penguin has just made my day week ! LOL!....*cough*.....*choke*....

Need to rest more. Ciao for now.

Ahdo post exam emoing

Time flies, especially when you are not doing anything that involves a book, a highlighter, [Insert of your choice: coffee, tea or energy drink] and brain juice - Endre (2007)

A week has passed since the day I incinerated all my lecture notes. Oddly, the elation did not last more than just a couple of days. Before the end of it, instead of staying focus, my mind has often been drifting into the realm of imagination. Imagining the euphoria, the relief and the to-do's after THE day. Now that I'm over it, the sense of direction and purpose seem to have vanished.

During the torturous time, even the tiny little things that can put your mind away from the real business can suddenly be so wonderful to do and to behold. In my case, whenever I was bored of stuffing words into my head, I'd start playing Worms on my hp. I'd stare at the cloudy sky and marveled at the cloud formation. I'd read the newspapers (even the business section) in earnest. Not anymore.

Yeh, I've been to newly-opened places like the Pavilion and the Gardens. A lot of wah's and wow's but the sense of emptiness is so profound. I dunno. Maybe I'm getting bored of this city. Perhaps this city is very good at fulfilling your desire but not your need. Maybe there are others that are feeling the same. Maybe that is why the city is always empty during festivals. Just maybe.

Sigh, I need to rest, pack and leave.

Taking a leaf out of the aussie boy's book.

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home

Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
I just wanna go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

And I’ve been keeping all the letters that I wrote to you
Each one a line or two
“I’m fine baby, how are you?”
Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I’m lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I’ve got to go home

Let me go home
I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life
It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
'Cause this was not your dream
But you always believed in me

Another winter day has come
And gone away
In even Paris and Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home

And I’m surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
Oh, let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

Let me go home
I’ve had my run
Baby, I’m done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It will all be all right
I’ll be home tonight
I’m coming back home

Ahdo musical!

Yup! Chicago the musical @ KL Convention Centre (on Day #1 after exam, hahaha....)

Didn't watch the ZitaGereBridgetJones rendition of the movie, so the skinny alien and I arrived at the hall without any inkling of the plot/stroyline and what to expect (well, i did do a 15sec skim-scan on Wikipedia with the search word 'Chicago Musical' and managed to catch a glimpse of words like murder and lawyer before rushing out for the show, but that's all).

Random ceiling shot

So, after walking briskly past a big bunch of coat+perfume+silk gown+perfume laden (no mink, luckily) rich gaijin and local men, women, lady, boys and girls, we found ourselves slumping in the comfy seats. To our delight, our seats have plenty of legroom (even to the standard of a long-limbed alien, i would safely say) as we were seated by the aisle that bordered the lower and the upper levels of the hall.

Another plus point, besides the extra space to do your stretching was that you have a 'slide-show' of people walking past right in front of you. After the faithful following of the 1st season of Project Runway (M'sian punya), we ....., let's just say that we managed to brush-up some useful adjectives for describing permed-up baboons, the sisters of Michelle Pfeiffer in Stardust (but that another story for another post) and so forth.

Pardon the digress.

The stage: Blue columns as prison cells with the band playing above them.

Back to the performance.

Initially, I was dreading the kind of Broadway show as performed by the to-be wife of the GM man that shoots glue from his wrists in 'Eight-Legged Man 3'. But less than 1 minute into the show, my fear of snoring halfway thru was allayed. I was simply blew away by the performance.

I'm not gonna plagiarize about the plot, so for those that think that it's a musical with Michael Jordan as the main actor, please wiki here.

To make a long story short, I was in awe of the singing and acting talent of the casts. The captivating voices, memorable characters, the dazzling array of movements, the props and costumes - everything just seems to click perfectly well together throughout the 2-hour show. Well, that is the view of a first- timer kampung boy anyway. And the kampung boy
particularly likes the characters of the cheated husband, the lawyer and the mama.

A gather-round of all the performers after the show

I have to say that it was an eye-opening special experience for me and a very effective unwinding therapy after an almost non-stop, maddening academic year. Highly recommended especially for those would have stacks of cash to spare.

Of course, how could i leave out Shin, who got the tickets for us FOC (as my slightly belated but nonetheless treasured birthday present). My gratitude, as they say - is beyond words.

So that wraps up my first stage musical experience. Next stop, hopefully is the MPO.

The Return of Ahdoe

Done and dusted, about time too.

A week in the exam hall was like 49 days in a pressure cooker stuffed with week-old laundry marinated in dog pee and baby puke. Putrefying to the max!

Cant bear to recount the days yet, at least not now.

Now, I'm off to Chicago. The Musical. Not the place where bulls play basketball in reds.

Sky is gray. Wish me luck.

Signing off,
An unchained 'mehhhh!!!' horse.
